John and Teresa Heinz Kerry – Together Since 1995

In 1990, at an Earth Day rally, Teresa Heinz met John Kerry, then a U.S. Senator. Their paths crossed again in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. After the tragic death of Teresa’s first husband, Senator John Heinz, in 1991, she and John Kerry began dating. They married on May 26, 1995, in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Teresa is a philanthropist and the former First Lady of Pennsylvania. She has three sons from her previous marriage. John, a former U.S. Secretary of State and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, has two daughters from his first marriage. The couple shares a commitment to public service and philanthropy. ​
