Politics Doesn’t Always Break Hearts – These Couples Are Still Going Strong

Elizabeth and Bruce Mann – Together Since 1980

In 1978, Elizabeth Warren, then a law professor in Texas, met Bruce H. Mann, a legal historian from Connecticut, at a conference in Florida. Their connection was immediate. Elizabeth proposed to Bruce in 1980 after observing his teaching style, saying, “What can I say? Will you marry me?”

They married on July 12, 1980, blending their families. Bruce became a devoted stepfather to Elizabeth’s two children from her first marriage, Amelia and Alexander. He frequently traveled to support their activities, earning the affectionate title “Dad” from the children. Professionally, Elizabeth served as a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, while Bruce taught at Harvard Law School.
