Chuck and Iris Schumer – Together Since 1980
In the late 1970s, Chuck and Iris Schumer crossed paths at a Mid-Bay Independent Democrats meeting in Brooklyn. Chuck, then a 24-year-old state assemblyman, and Iris, a 21-year-old lobbyist, connected over shared political passions. Their bond deepened, leading to their marriage on September 21, 1980, atop the World Trade Center’s Windows on the World.
Together, they have two daughters, Jessica and Alison, both Harvard graduates. Jessica has worked at Amazon, while Alison has pursued a career in marketing. Chuck, serving as the U.S. Senator from New York, and Iris, the Chief Operating Officer of the New York Public Library, continue to support each other’s endeavors.
