Chuck and Iris Schumer – Together Since 1980

In the late 1970s, Chuck and Iris Schumer crossed paths at a Mid-Bay Independent Democrats meeting in Brooklyn. Chuck, then a 24-year-old state assemblyman, and Iris, a 21-year-old lobbyist, connected over shared political passions. Their bond deepened, leading to their marriage on September 21, 1980, atop the World Trade Center’s Windows on the World.​

Together, they have two daughters, Jessica and Alison, both Harvard graduates. Jessica has worked at Amazon, while Alison has pursued a career in marketing. Chuck, serving as the U.S. Senator from New York, and Iris, the Chief Operating Officer of the New York Public Library, continue to support each other’s endeavors.
