Who Is Joleen Diaz?

There’s no wonder why the mom-and-daughter tandem in our story resembles each other so much–both of them won the genetic lottery! Joleen is a high school teacher, who originated from Guam and moved to the United States.

Joleen’s transfer to California meant bringing along her then-ten-year-old daughter, Meilani. We can only imagine how difficult the adjustment period was, especially since she had no partner to raise her daughter with. Many would experience “culture shock,” which is the feeling of anxiety and confusion, leaving them disoriented, after moving to an unfamiliar environment.
