We like to think that Hawaiians were the first surfers because almost everything about them points to it, and they have actually been credited as the originators of the modern sport. If you pay attention to some Hawaiian souvenirs and fashion items, you’ll notice the hints that surfing has always been a part of their lifestyle.

For them, it had other significant meanings apart from just being a sport. It held some spiritual significance for them as well. In fact, from the length of the surfboard and the quality of wood used to make it, one could differentiate royalty from the common man in Hawaii.
