St. Edward Crown Undergoes Refurbishment
The St. Edward Crown, first crafted for Charles II in 1661 and stored with other Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, left the premises in December for refurbishment ahead of King Charles’ coronation.
The palace revealed that the original crown is speculated to date back to the 11th-century royal saint, Edward the Confessor. Charles will swap the St. Edward Crown for the lighter Imperial State Crown. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla will don Queen Mary’s Crown.
