A Fictional Take on William’s Ascent to the Throne
As with many issues, fictional authors picked up their pens to produce some stories regarding the drama. Many pieces of fiction explored the possibility of William becoming king instead of his father.
In the novel “The Queen and I” by Sue Townsend, the royal family is forced to live on a council estate after a Republican party wins a general election. In it, Charles is portrayed as a tragic figure, and William takes over the throne.
