Contingency Plans in Place In Case of Charles’ Incapacitation
The question of what would happen if Charles were to become incapacitated is difficult, but contingency plans are in place. If Charles can no longer fulfill his duties as monarch, William would become regent and take on most of his father’s responsibilities.
This would not be the same as an abdication, as Charles would technically still be the monarch, but his son would be acting on his behalf.
