Can We Make the Phrasing Easier?

Finding the appropriate English words for what we want to express can sometimes be challenging. For those whose primary language is not English, this is particularly true. The grocery store employee undoubtedly had trouble coming up with the proper English phrase when they created this sign, which is delightfully phrased. At least they had an idea!

They inserted “bananas by the each” into the label maker instead of just writing “per piece,” “each,” or “by the piece,” and calling it a day. Fortunately, despite its strange wording, the sign functions well. We bet some passing shoppers even laughed a little bit at it!
