Dead On His Feet

There is an old expression in sports where commentators would say that a player is dead on his feet. The term describes a situation where someone is standing up, but has nothing left in his tank and is basically just going on instinct and power of will.

This expression doesn’t only apply to sports, though. A regular person can also be dead on their feet and won’t even have to run or walk anywhere. Like the guy in the picture above, who is so wasted he can’t even look straight ahead. He is, as per the British informal term, paralytic.
