Anne Reid had initially acted in other TV shows like Hancock’s Half Hour (1957) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1958). However, her big break came in playing Valerie Tatlock (later Barlow) on ITV’s Coronation Street. She then portrayed Jean in the sitcom dinnerladies and Celia Dawson in Last Tango in Halifax, for which she got nominated for a BAFTA.

Reid can also boast about her performance in the film The Mother (2003) because it won her a London Film Critics Circle Award. In 2019, she co-starred in Years and Years, a six-part BBC drama show. As for this year, she’s busy working on the movie SAS: Red Notice.
