NHL Ice Girls
In 2001, the New York Islanders made NHL waves not just with their on-ice performance but by introducing the league’s first cheerleader-style Ice Girls squad. Tasked with revving up the crowd and maintaining a clear ice surface during game breaks, these Ice Girls quickly gained popularity, becoming a fixture of the Islanders’ game-day experience.
However, with the limelight came scrutiny. Critics argued their outfits were too revealing, bringing an unnecessary element to a sport steeped in tradition. Amidst the critiques and evolving perspectives, the Islanders eventually moved away from the Ice Girls concept in 2015, marking the end of an era in their game-day entertainment.
