Kalahari Desert’s Weaver Bird Metropolis
Possible Drone Used: DJI Spark
The Kalahari Desert is not only a vast expanse of arid land but also a haven for one of nature’s most exceptional architects—the weaver bird. These talented avian builders construct enormous nests atop telephone poles, as seen in this photo, that can accommodate over 100 pairs of birds.
Photographer Dillon Marsh captured the unique personalities of each nest with his 4×5 view camera, creating a stunning collection of images that transform the otherwise barren desert into a bird city, complete with poles repurposed as trees. Weavers are reputed to be highly intelligent avian creatures capable of learning tricks and performing acrobatics with training.
