A Close Call on the Water

On a serene day, Nick Riley, a craftsman of custom tugboats made especially for his children, finds himself momentarily anxious. Floating on the water in one of his creations, he’s approached by a law enforcement official. It might seem like Nick’s about to receive a ticket to an onlooker, perhaps adding a dash of irony to his peaceful day.

But the officer was merely checking and returning the boat’s registration paper. Navigating waterways comes with its own set of rules. For instance, operating a boat under the influence, overspeeding in no-wake zones, or lacking proper safety equipment can lead to infractions with marine law enforcement.
