Cannibalistic

Some female spiders occasionally practice cannibalism by devouring their mates as a post-coital treat. However, a recent study published by Current Biology has shed new light on the evolution of male spiders in certain species who have developed survival tactics to avoid being consumed by their partners.

The study conducted 155 spider matings, out of which 152 males utilized a technique known as “catapulting behavior” to escape their mates after copulation. Interestingly, the three male spiders who did not employ this technique were captured and eaten by their partners. However, the tradition of “male sacrifice” is not prevalent in humans, and one should not fear such funny t-shirt one-liners.
