Fat-Shaming can be Detrimental
It’s a common misconception that shaming individuals for their weight or eating habits can inspire them to adopt healthier behaviors. However, scientific research indicates that fat shaming is counterproductive and can cause more harm than good. Rather than encouraging positive change, it can lead to negative feelings and even compulsive eating and weight gain.
Criticizing or harassing overweight people for their size or eating patterns is also a form of cyberbullying, particularly for women. Unfortunately, social media often perpetuates these negative attitudes toward individuals carrying a few extra pounds. Our advice is to ignore the shaming and respond creatively, letting your confidence shine through.
