Being a professional sportsman comes with lots of obligations. As an athlete, you are destined to follow your club’s instructions. Yes! In some extreme cases, you might not even be allowed to attend your big day: The marriage ceremony! For common mortals like us, this could be too much to ask for; after all, your wedding is one of the biggest days of your life.
However, if you look at it from the perspective of an athlete, their sporting commitments mean that everything else in life must take a backseat. In other words, if your club restrains you from attending your own wedding – yes, the big day – you will have no say in the matter. According to studies, clubs relentlessly look after their reputation, especially if the athletes are playing in big tournaments and leagues, they will have to compromise on their family matters.
Particularly, if an athlete plays for a highly qualified club, they are destined to neglect their private lives. Thus, their only preference is to stick with their clubs and give them big wins.
Sounds too good to be true? Well, this is true. A recent that comes from South Africa proves it right once again. An African player, Mohamed Buya Toray, was all set to tie the knot back home. Coincidentally, Mohamed’s club wanted to play for the club – and sacrifice his big day. Guess what he did? He missed his wedding and did not say no to his club. While the wedding was all set to happen on July 24, 2022, when the big day finally came, Mohamed’s club asked him not to leave the ground. Now, he had no option of canceling the big day party since it was already decided. The athlete asked the organizers (his family members, close relatives, and friends) to sustain the big party while he decided to remain on the ground.
How Did The Marriage Happen Without the Bridegroom?
Out of curiosity, you might be wondering how come it is possible to arrange a wedding ceremony without a bridegroom. Well, it turns out that Mohamed asked his younger brother to represent him on his big day. His girlfriend, now turned wife, Suad Bayduan, was “very well prepared” for the wedding despite the fact that she know that her love will be missing at the party.
Nevertheless, the striker was prepared for this. So, he took advantage of the time and took pictures with his significant other girlfriend before the wedding ceremony. For people who were not present at the altar, it looked like Mohamed was actually there at his wedding. But he was not! It was his younger brother who represented him on the big day.
In a post-match conference, the striker told the correspondents that he does not regret missing the big day. But he “certainly missed” his significant other.
